Sick and tired of dealing with hubs that do not want to stay adjusted or bearings wearing out quickly in less than perfect weather? If you don't mind voiding a warranty this is the most elegant solution to all of your hub troubles, re-lace your rim to a White Industries hub! That way you get the best of both worlds and no compromises, one of the best rims out there laced to one of the smoothest and longest running hubs you can buy!
Touring wheels do not get much nicer than this! Rohloff internally geared hub and SON dynamo front hub laced to Velocity's new, redesigned Cliffhanger.
I am really excited about this new Cliffhanger, Velocity finally made some BIG changed to address the issues they had with rims splitting down the middle when people tried to use wide tires at higher pressures. The former rim was great for heavy mountain bikers running low pressures but was not quite up to the demands of most touring riders who like to run higher tire pressures.
Fast enough to race on and still durable enough to train on for years, the Velocity Deep V paired with Dura Ace track hubs is hard to top when headed towards the Velodrome!
This was a good way to end the day! Industry Nine hubs laced to Stans Notubes Flow rims!
There is something especially satisfying about building the same set of wheels you own (other than color) for a customer!
White Industries T11 hubs paired with Velocity A23 rims is of my favorite do it all road/gravel/cross/commuter sets of wheels you can make. I have had this same combo for a couple years and have done everything from fast (to my standards) road rides to mountain biking and even some horribly slushy commutes that I was sure were going to give the hubs trouble but sure enough they still spin just as smooth as new.
Now is the time to convert your fatbike to 29+! Dropping a few lbs of rotating weight and throwing on faster rolling tires will make your fatbike feel like a rocket ship!
Gorgeous set of Hope Fatsno hubs laced to Velocity USA Duallys out the door today!
I am starting to wonder how long until I pass the 1,000 carbon fat wheel mark! Sweet set of Nextie 65mm rims laced to I9 hubs out the door today! I have a few more pretty exciting projects in the very near future too!
Seriously, don't... While it may have had its merits in the days of extremely flexy rims for the majority of modern components it really will not give you any noticeable gains. With that being said, I still will occasionally get bored and tie and solder some personal wheels.
This was a really fun build for a very cool bike! These will be going on a Calfee carbon fiber fat tandem for Will Muecke from Team CoreCo. Thanks again for letting me be a part of this amazing project!
There is nothing more I love seeing than the crazy adventures (that may be an understatement for this his trip...) my wheels can take people on. Thanks so much for the great review Iohan, I will continue to live vicariously through your amazing trip!
Obsession, or passion? Who am I to judge? Either way I simply love building wheels for those who appreciate quality!
