So, we all have that customer who manages to destroy any and all things on their bike while "Just Riding Along" and know how frustrating it can be on both sides of that mess. This customer, always friendly, but always destroying components, has finally let me talk him into building up a proper wheel for him to do his best at hurting it. The Hazard Lite from Odyssey is pretty well respected when people simply want a super tough BMX Park wheel so this is what I ordered for him. Laced to a KHE Freecoaster hub, should be a nice improvement from the OE style wheels he has been really crushing lately.
OK, not literally bombproof but this is a super durable commuter wheelset that could even handle some modest touring. Sun CR-18 rims laced to Shimano LX hubs with DT double butted spokes.
Some lucky kid is getting really set up for this weekends racing. Crupi Rythym hubs, Box Focus Rims, all tied together with Titanium spokes. Really digging the black on blue.
Velocity has some new rims that look rather promising for heavy duty use like cargo and touring bikes, they are their NoBS and Atlas. The NoBS is the little brother to the Atlas, the Atlas adds machined sidewalls and eyelets (although Velocity says they designed the rim to be run without eyelets through a much thicker spoke bed)
The NoBS built up well, it was straight and round, and despite not having machined sidewalls braking is super smooth. I will update after it has some real use on it but it looks rather promising and should live up the the name making for a very bullshit free, super durable wheel.
Here it is paired with Deore hubs and DT Alpine triple butted spokes.
Here is another couple sets of high end Box 20" race wheels I recently built.
I am a huge fan of high volume tires and having a rim that is 35mm wide (external width) only adds more volume and makes for a more stable tire. Knowing they come from a company who stands behind their product like none other and that they come in lots of good looking colors is only icing on the cake.
Canadian Couple came in looking for a wheel that can handle around 40 miles a day commuting in the great white north after he had worn completely through his brake track. Nothing good hanging around the shop so I had an excuse to build him another wheel. CR-18 laced to an older XT hub packed fresh with new bearings/grease should be up to the challenge.......ehh
Really nice set of race wheels, Crupi Rhythm hubs laced to 20 1 1/8" Box Focus rims.
Obsession, or passion? Who am I to judge? Either way I simply love building wheels for those who appreciate quality!
